Disadvantages of propaganda to the
public
Propaganda
is presentation of ideas that designed to persuaded group of people. There are
many disadvantages of propaganda. The first one, it is promotion of social
evil. Some firms present immoral program, and crime stories in TV and radio for
advertising their products which have very bad influence in people. So, it
creates social evil in society and
wasting of economy. The second one, it influence in opinion of public , and
that make their opinion similar. The
third one, it is influence on purchasing power of consumers. So, some people
use foul means to increase their income for purpose of meeting their
necessities of life. Thus, it creates corruption in society. The fourth one, it
encourage on monopoly. So, the producers
exercise their monopolistic control over the market with help of propaganda which is always against the public
interest of people. The last one, it creates unrequited desire. Another objection is that propaganda
influences the mind of public. It creates the desire and taste for new products
which are not actually necessities of life and income of consumers will not let
them enjoy. propaganda may thus be regarded as the cause of unrequited desire
which may result in unhappiness .
Examples

There are examples of propaganda
as Nazi Germany instituted an effective
but deadly propaganda campaign that convinced German citizens they were the
master race and that Jews and other groups must be eliminated. Joseph Goebbels,
the Nazis' Minister for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda, created
anti-Semitic films and oversaw the building of 20 radio stations to broadcast
Nazi Germany’s message to neighboring nations. While the campaign worked to
sway public opinion, over 6 million people died as a result of the Nazis' Final
Solution. In the end, Germany lost World War II, Adolf Hitler committed
suicide, and future generations continue to live in the shadow of the Holocaust.
The other example is at the beginning of the Iraq War and
overarching “War on Terror” in the United States, many slogans were coined to
justify invading other countries. “Weapons of Mass Destruction” was the main
reason President George W. Bush's administration used to invade Iraq in 2003.
Yet when no WMDs were found in Iraq, support for the president and his party
declined, and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld was forced from office due
to his role in the claims. In addition, campaigns are encouraging people to buy War Bonds in the
United States during the Second World War often featured pictures of happy
families. These propaganda materials suggested that buying bonds was not only
patriotic because it would help the country, but could also lead to greater
happiness for consumers. Likewise, a government might suggest that its citizens
are happier and healthier in a campaign aimed at attracting skilled immigrants.

There is connection between persuasion and
propaganda. The propaganda is shape of persuasion. There is clear difference
between persuasion and propaganda. Those involved in public relation argue that
while both propaganda and persuasion aim to alter people's opinion and
attitudes. Also that, persuasion and propaganda is viewpoint, and they raise to
the people. And, they have change to accept or reject.
