The Scarlet Letter

The Scarlet Letter written by Nathaniel Hawthorne in the mid-Nineteenth century. It published in 1850.  It tale of human tragedy, which try to carry moral. It was well researched and portrays the era of Puritanism.   Back in the day, the law and religion were inseparable. When woman cheated her husband even if that husband had been missing for two years. She had to be punished by the law.
The Scarlet Letter is about a woman named Hester committed adultery and had a child. The townspeople are anger and they make her wear a scarlet “A” on her clothes for everyone to see. It is should be a mark of shame, but Hester   makes her “A” beautiful. Her husband sent her to Boston and he will follow her later, but at least two years passed and he had still not shown up. While Hester is receiving some of her punishment by standing on a scaffold, she saw her husband in the crowd. They later speak while she is in the jail, and he reveals that he is now using the alias Roger Chillingworth so that he is not associated with Hester. Everyone wants to know who Pearl’s father is, but Hester refuses to tell not even Pearl knows.Roger Chillingworth begins search to get revenge on Pearl’s father. Then, Dimmesdale recognize to crowd about his sin and about his daughter (Peal), and he died.Roger Chillingworth died year after Dimmesdale. Peal married from rich person. Hester return back to Boston and help poor people. And the people forgot what she do is.
The title plays as an important symbol in the story. There is a law and religion judgment in a Puritan society where the story took place which forced woman to wear big red "A" on her clothing until everyone see that. Hester, the hero of the story sent by her husband Roger Chillingworth to America where she thought will never see him again. Hester met a theologian named Arthur Dimmesdale and they become in love. She then cheated on her husband with Arthur so, she had to be punished by law and forced to wear the scarlet letter on her bodice. Now we can say Hester is the one who gives the book its title. The scarlet letter "A" that she wore stands for adultery with Aurther which then gave birth to her daughter Pearl. Although this could make woman feels shame of her sin but Hester was strong, she proudly walks through town with her head held high. Because she loved Aurther extremely, she never wanted to know about the father of her daughter and she endures years of shame and scorn.
Through of that, we see that there are two scarlet letter forms. The first one, Hester is made to wear the scarlet letter on the bodice of her dress as acknowledgment of her adultery, and to remember her about her sin. Hester is more painted by the second symbol of her adultery (her daughter Peal). She becomes living symbol of scarlet letter ''A'' on her chest.   However, this A is not only a symbol of Hester’s adultery. Hester sews it herself ,so it is meant to speak of her sins, it is so beautifully made that the townspeople notice its artistry and craftsmanship before they remember what it means.

To sum up, Scarlet Letter story is gothic and romance story. It is about woman who committed adultery. The town people anger about that, and they punish her to wear scarlet letter ''A'' until everyone see her. This scarlet letter appears as two forms. The first one, she wear scarlet letter in her dress. Also, her daughter (Peal) is living symbol of scarlet letter. However, she still be strong and did not take care about the people although of all that.
